about the artist

Kelle is a Toronto-based Pop/R&B singer/songwriter, originally hailing from Vancouver. As a product of the late 90’s/early 2000’s, Kelle takes inspiration from all that is Pop Culture. Her inspirations include Lady Gaga, Prince, Ariana Grande, SZA, Lorde, Miley Cyrus, Kehlani, and the artists from her early days, including Cat Stevens (Yusuf), Jewel, Norah Jones, Fleetwood Mac, and Al Green. She is fascinated by the idea of transformation, dramatic displays of private emotion, and spectacle.

Her latest release, “Tampa”, (2023) (single) is accompanied by her self-funded and created first music video for, and is the lead single for her debut EP, The Feminine Principle (2024). Through The Feminine Principle, Kelle claims and celebrates femininity in all its forms, and turns pain to pink. Upon its release, “Tampa”, was featured in several publications and playlists including Exclaim!, Canadian Beats, Tinnitist, The End of Travelling, and GroundSounds (USA).

“There is something to be said about the way women are viewed when they are justifiably angry, and the pressure to continue along the high road, in fear of being painted as crazy, bitter, or scorned. In “Tampa,” I choose to embrace the scorned woman trope, and provide her with support and empathy instead of shame. Through a narrative lens, we can dramatize these heavy feelings and find joy, humour, and celebration in their place”, Kelle says.

In 2021, Kelle completed a successful crowdfunding campaign with Plaid Dog Recording in Boston to support "The Feminine Principle", during which $9000 was raised in 30 days. The Feminine Principle’s shiny, uplifting dance track, “wasting my twenties”, was released in 2021 as a promotional single for the campaign, and a taste of what is to come. Kelle’s first single, “Retrograde” was released in 2018. She has played at a variety of venues and events in her hometowns of Vancouver and Victoria, such as The Media Club, The Backstage Lounge (Vancouver), Vinyl Envy (Victoria), and the Vancouver Sun Run. Most recently she has played The Painted Lady (Toronto), Commercial Drive Car Free Day (Vancouver), Vancouver Pride's Picnic In The Park, and The Roxy Vancouver.
